He didn't play well throughout the game.
| Quote: | | He'll switch to being a forward eventually anyway, where his pace will be far more useful. Its not like there's many other players coming though that can play alongside Rooney. Carlton Cole possibly, maybe Agbonlahor - but he's the type of player that might begin to think he's bigger and better than he is and may lost focus later in his career like Kluivert. |
I don't see how Walcott can play alongside Rooney - having one striker with the first touch of a jackhammer is bad enough, two just means we'll never get the ball to stick up front.
As I keep saying, if Walcott ever learns how to use his pace properly he could be an effective player, but he'll never be great technically. Spending years playing an AM/Winger for Arsenal will not teach him how to exploit central defenders with his movement.
So I just don't see it happening, unless he stays at Arsenal and keeps getting picked because of that. |

| That's probably what will happen Ideally Heskey Mark II is sitting in the under 18s of some team out there somewhere. Except that this version can finish. |

| Its only five years I doubt there will be so many young players even if the current good mid-twenties England players are rare to find. One player I'm pretty sure will be in the team (if there are no seriously injury problems or alcohol problems like Johnson) is Noble. I would put him in the team now but in five years I can't see any England CM being better than him. |

| If you look at what age current players will be, you get better idea of who might still be around: (roughly) James 42 Johnson 30 Ferdinand 36 Terry 34 Cole 34 Walcott 25 Gerrard 34 Lampard 36 Barry 33 Cole 33 Rooney 29 There is kind of a generation shift where all of Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Cole, Cole, Barry, Ferdinand, Bridge, Upson, Crouch, Heskey are all within ~3 yrs of each other. That's 7/8 of current 1st team, and 2014 will be cut-off point for a lot of them as far as major tournaments go. |

| Our U21's have done well recently, but I can't say I'm overly excited by any of the players. It's a side full of pacey, robust, athletes, but to me, there is an apparenty dearth of creativity and guile. Where is the next J Cole or Rooney, or even Lampard? Where are the gifted ball players? Rodwell looks like he could turn in to a technically gifted DM/CB - not quite a Marquez or Chivu type, but someone like Rio, but what about the midfield or forwards? Walcott shows glimpes of technique and ability, but is all too frequently brutalised by Odonkor-esque moments. Failing to secure a regular place in the side say's it all. I can see why people are excited by Wilshere. Hype-machine no doubt, but at least he looks to be cut from a different cloth to the rest of the next 'crop'. |

| Wilshere does have the touch of a lothario so he might develop into someone important for the national side. I like Sturridge, though Chelsea's the wrong club for him. |

| Sturridge is done for the forseeable future, maybe in a couple of years he will move to someone like Blackburn and start his career proper, but until then we won't see much of him. |

Mark Noble maybe? There does seem to be somewhat of a dearth of magicians.
Delfonso looks to potentially have a bit of flair about him, although I've not really seen enough to judge. |

| I forgot about Sturridge. I actually liked the look of him at City. Like Kimbo say's though, I'm not sure Chelsea was the best move for him. He'll be what, 4th choice? May get minutes here and there, but probably needs to be starting 20+ games a season to really bring on his development. Mark Noble is a decent looking player, hardly your creative '10' or dribbler though. Haven't really seen Delfonso play, but by all accounts done well for Villa in his limited playing time. Adam Johnson, I guess is another I forgot, but he really needs to establish himself at Boro next season. |

Hopefully you'll get to see more of him this season. I doubt you'll be impsressed. He is ok in the sense that he is strong and quick but that will only get you so far. |

They'll bring him on as a sub in a few league games when they're 3-0 up, and they will play him in the carling cup and useless european games against red star blahblahski. Then they will say "look, he's getting games". It's bullshit, the whole thing stinks IMO. |

| Maybe your promising young players should move abroad and experience a different country, different playing style, different mentality. (Big) EPL clubs stealing and hoarding young talent from all over Europe / the world doesn't really help though. It's 'smaller' clubs like West Ham, Boro etc. that produce the lion's share of promising English talent. |
